Mock Interviews for Seniors

16 Senior pupils were given the opportunity to undertake a mock interview conducted by Mr Ian Ferguson - HR Director of Park’s Hamilton, Helen Salt - Business Engagement Officer, Elliott Jordan from the Business Economic Advisory Board of SLC, and Lorraine Blair of Careers Scotland.

The pupils were nervous but were made to feel relaxed and were given a superb opportunity to practise talking themselves up. The vast majority were confident but one or two perhaps still have to ‘sell themselves’ more.

There were many shining stars but in particular Christopher Price impressed the panel with his wide range of voluntary work out with school, and Mudsar Ahmad also gave an excellent account of himself. Callum McCutcheon and Jamie Kyle were both feeling under the weather yet with some encouragement they fought through the pain barrier to do a good job.

Mock Interviews

Senior pupils underwent mock interviews today as part of enrichment and NPA Enterprise & Employability.
Our interviewers were employers from a range of industries and put our young people through their paces.
Feedback was highly positive, and the vast majority of pupils enjoyed the process. As Helen Salt said: "it's better to make mistakes in a mock interview than in a real one".
Our next step is to aim high and try conduct a whole year group mock interview event.
The more experience our pupils can get the better!

Recruitment Day

On Friday Higher Administration pupils underwent our annual recruitment programme but with an added twist!

Pupils had been given a job advert with the job description and person specification for a position as an Administration Assistant for an ICT company. Pupils then had to fill in an application form and then were divided into 2 separate pools.

They were given a list of possible questions they could be asked by the 2 seperate interview panels (who were made up or Mr MacLeod and 2 seniors, and Miss Boag and 2 seniors).

During the interview process the pupils were filmed using FLIP cameras. Once it was over, the panel typed up their notes and we will edit together the footage so the pupils can watch everyone's performance along with the feedback.

Hopefully this will give them some insight into the recruitment and selection process and also develop skills as interviewees and even interviewers.

Next week it will be our Int 2 class's turn, which will give some of the Higher pupils who were interviewed an opportunity to be the interrogator!

Congratulations to Emma and Hannah who were the two selected by the interview panels to get the job!
