Management Gurus

This is a helpful slideshow presentation I made for actually myself, when trying to summarise many of the most famous management gurus. It is not really needed for Higher Business Management, though some obviously do appear in the course. It is helpful for teachers and educators and university/college business students.

Office Layout Presentation

Another presentation on Office Layout, aimed at Standard Grade Administration pupils, but may help others.

Revision Flashcards - Quizlet

Using flashcards for revision is an excellent study tool. I have made several for my students to use on Quizlet (www.quizlet.com)

Here are my flashcards for Higher Business Management

These flashcard revision sets can be printed out or shared for everyone to use. Pupils can also revise online using a series of games to aid their motivation. I have been using Quizlet since 2009. Many other departments in my school have started using Quizlet also.

Prelim Study Tips

Obviously I want my students to try their best for my own exam, however I know that is not always possible. What I would say is follow these tips:

Make a plan/timetable of your study for all subjects – don’t leave it until a few days or the night before an exam.

Study in short chunks. I used to study in 40 minute blocks with a 20 minute break.

;Drink lots of water – this helps concentration.

Use different coloured pens when re-writing notes

t;Summarise your lecture notes into your own notes

t;Summarise your own notes into mindmaps or some form of shorthand

;Attempt past paper questions – don’t use the solutions unless you are really stuck – then see how you did

Try the difficult questions – attempt topics or questions you don’t know that well – by re-doing ones you are good at you are only kidding yourself on. You need to make sure you can answer a broad range of questions.

;Create a bank of quiz questions on topics/subjects – then get someone at home to quiz you in the evening for 20 minutes – flashcards are useful.

Vozme - From Text to Speech

While taking a look around Douglas Semple's ICT Maverick blog I found his post on another blogger's page, Jane Knight.

It centred around what is called Vozme and can be found here

It turns text into speech, so I think we will give that a try for revision!

Perhaps even all my long winded notes can be uploaded and then turned into speech for download to your iPod or mp3 player.

Worth a go anyway!
