Amazon profits from festive sales

Amazon's sales increased despite the recession.
Profit at online retailer Amazon rose 9% in the final three months of last year, as the company enjoyed a robust holiday shopping season.


Car sector contracts in January

The car industry has been hit by the slowdown
The number of new cars registered in the UK in January declined 30.9% year-on-year, according to industry figures, worse than December's contraction.

The Ellesmere Port plant stopped production for one month
Staff at Vauxhall's car plants in Ellesmere Port and Luton are taking a cut in pay after agreement was reached to reduce their working hours.
