Unsure how old this particular information is as it does have “West Germany” in it, but it does send out a message to the USA.
The tragic, unthinkable events at a little elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut has touched the world again, even after incidents in shopping malls and cinemas.
The USA has a gun culture of which we are all aware, yet why is nothing done about it? Here is where the links to Business Education comes in. The NRA (National Rifle Association) are a powerful group of activists and lobbyists who keep pressure on Congress to maintain the status quo. Why?
Guns and firearms in the USA is big business. Many hundreds of thousands are bought each year and naturally lots of ammunition. It all adds up to some people making millions. Now it is perfectly sensible to allow farmers to have guns (as we do here in the UK) however do people in the USA really need semi and automatic weapons in their homes? Those types of weapons are not even used for hunting.
The public and political pressure will mount on President Obama (who after all doesn’t have to run for another term) to act and to do something. Is it possible? Tighter gun control laws in the USA would be a monumental change in the culture of the nation. If we think of PESTEC then we have Political and Social factors coming to bear on the gun manufacturers.
I don’t know what will happen, nor do I suspect does anyone. However, judging by the reaction on TV and social media over this latest tragedy, it does have that feeling of a watershed moment.
