I saw this movie and thought it was visually excellent. I had never read the book, which I think I will do so now. It is hard to say too much as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but in a nutshell the Life of Pi is about a young Indian boy who is moving with his family to Canada across the Pacific accompanied by the animals of their zoo. Tragedy strikes in the form of the Japanese ship sinking, and Pi is left alone on a lifeboat with a Tiger, called “Richard Parker”. The two have some adventures on the way, and has some elements of Faith and religion in it.
Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) directed the movie, and it is certainly spectacular. I would recommend seeing it in 3D.
Some points to note... google or look up the name Richard Parker. Very interesting. Also the author ripped off the idea from another novella called “Max and the Cats” about a German refugee alone in the Atlantic with a jaguar on his way to Brazil.
Go see it, it is one of the most cinematic movies I have seen for a while.
