Robot to clean Fukushima

Mitsubishi have created a robot that will go into the nuclear accident site of Fukushima and clean it up! The plant was crippled and damaged during the March 2011 earthquake and the resulting tsunami.

The remote controlled robot is built to withstand radiation  and is called a ‘Tankbot’. It has arms which can hold loads of up to 15kg.

I visited Tokyo 4 weeks after the crisis, and it was an eerie city. The famous neon signs were not all on, as you can see from this picture I took in Shinjuku, one of the busiest places in Tokyo.

Tokyo, and Japan for that matter, are awesome places to visit, and I didn’t think twice about going, and I would recommend going. I aim to go back someday, perhaps on a school trip, to take pupils to the Peace Dome in Hiroshima.
