“Every journey starts with a single step...”
Journalist Paul Salopek, who is a regular contributor to the Chicago Tribune and the world famous National Geographic magazine plans to spend the next 7 years of his life trekking from the birthplace of mankind in Africa, to the southernmost tip of South America (via the Bering Sea as it was an ice bridge many years ago!).
This is a truly incredible adventure for anyone let alone a 50 year old family man. He will have to traverse dangerous terrain and political hotspots and war zones and indeed in 7 years time areas and places that are placid and peaceful now may well not be then!
But as he says he will just have to adapt in the same way the early predecessors of mankind did.
Mr Salopek is only taking with him a backpack and some filming equipment for the journey. His wife may well meet up with him on occasion to travel parts with him. I can only wish him luck and wonder how he will do come December 2019.
